Is there a pass mark?

No. There is no fixed pass mark for the assessment. However, we need to be confident that each candidate will be able to access and thrive within the curriculum at The Leys. Assessment results are considered alongside other information as part of the admissions process.

Can I change entry category? What are my options?

Once a place has been accepted, it can be very difficult to change entry category, as availability is often limited. When registering, we recommend indicating both a first and second choice category. This gives us greater flexibility when allocating places and may improve the options available to you.

Are offers based solely on assessment results?

No. Assessment results are an important part of the admissions process, but they are not the only factor we consider. We also take into account the school reference and other relevant considerations, such as family connections to the school.

Do children have an interview?

Interviews are not part of the standard admissions process. However, candidates applying for scholarships will be required to attend an interview as part of the scholarship assessment process.

Is there an opportunity to apply for a scholarship?

Yes. Scholarships are available for entry into Year 9. Scholarship assessments and interviews take place in January of Year 8.

When are Houses allocated?

Houses are allocated by The Leys during the March preceding September entry. Families may express a House preference during the application process, but allocations are made at the Head’s discretion and are subject to availability. A great deal of thought and care goes into every allocation. Factors considered include achieving a balance of interests across the wider curriculum, pupils’ previous schools and, where relevant, sibling placements. As House allocation is a complex process, it is not always possible to accommodate every preference. However, our experience is that pupils settle quickly and happily in their allocated House. Pupils mix extensively across the year group in lessons, co-curricular activities, sports teams and social time, and are encouraged to visit friends in other Houses. This helps foster the strong sense of community for which The Leys is known.

What if my child has specific accessibility needs?

Please inform The Leys of any accessibility requirements when applying. Where needs meet the relevant examination board criteria, every effort will be made to provide appropriate support and arrangements.

What happens if my child is unwell on the assessment day?

If your child is unable to attend due to illness, we will do our best to arrange an alternative assessment date.

What information does St Faith’s provide to The Leys?

St Faith’s provides a general reference for applicants and, where relevant, a scholarship reference.

Is there a sibling policy?

Yes. Having a sibling at The Leys is taken into consideration as part of the admissions process. However, all applicants must still demonstrate the academic ability required for entry.
