After School Activities
There are a range of After School activities available at The Leys.More Information
Tennis is played extensively in the Summer term, with a full fixtures programme for all players. Many pupils continue tennis through the winter months, with coaching from the school tennis professional, Francesco Robarts. We are also lucky to have many experienced tennis coaches on our teaching staff who are passionate about tennis, many of whom have played competitively for university, county or club teams.
Facilities include three hard courts, one with temporary floodlit lighting for evening use. In the Summer term we also have three high quality grass courts on site, as well as twelve astro courts with a further sixteen astro and three hard courts at our Latham Road fields.
The School’s regular tennis fixtures include Bedford Girls, Bishop’s Stortford, Felsted, Haileybury, Hills Road, Kimbolton, New Hall, Oakham, Oundle, The Perse, Stephen Perse, St Mary’s and Stamford. We enter the National Schools Championships (Glanville and Aberdare Cups), the Senior Student Competition (played in the winter terms) and U15 inter-school leagues run by the LTA. The Leys have run pre-season training camps in La Manga (Spain) and Val do Lobo (Portugal), and play in the Independent Schools Championships at Eton in the first few days of the summer holidays.
The Leys has good links with the four main clubs in the City (Cambridge, Cox and Hens, Shelford and David Lloyd) and we encourage pupils to play for clubs, train with county squads and play individual tournaments where appropriate.
