Home Boarding

Home Boarding

In addition to the conventional options of Boarding and Day places, The Leys also offers Home Boarding, giving pupils from local families the best of both worlds: pupils participate in boarding routines, eating supper in school, completing homework and taking part in evening activities, before going home at around 8.30pm.

They are, to all intents and purposes, boarders and fully fledged members of the boarding houses, balancing busy school lives with quality family time. For Home Boarders the school day starts at 8:20 am with house registration, and ends between 8:15 and 9:00 pm.

Key Elements of Home Boarding

All Home Boarders are required in school from 8.20am for Registration. Pupils in Years 9-11 can leave at 8.15pm and those in the Sixth Form stay until 9pm*.

Home Boarders are guaranteed:

  • Study space in a Boarding House, including a desk and book storage
  • From Year 11 onwards, a shared bedroom within one of the Boarding Houses
  • Storage and changing facilities
  • Access to shared social and communal areas within the House
  • Formal prep or study sessions in the evening
  • Lunch and supper
  • Access to a bed for occasional stays (subject to availability)**

*Pupils can be permitted to leave early for out-of-school commitments or for Pastoral reasons. Examples include sport commitments, family celebrations, to catch public transport, or for other Pastoral reasons at the discretion of the Housemaster/Housemistress.

**Overnight stays are free of charge when relating to a school commitment (e.g. production rehearsals) and otherwise chargeable at the per night rate.

You get the best of both worlds. You're very much part of the boarding community but you also get to see your family every evening and sleep in your own bed.
