Year 9 Pre-Testing

Year 9 Entry by Pre-Testing

The Leys offers pupils the opportunity to secure a Year 9 place up to two years early, subject to continued satisfactory performance. This is typically for pupils in Years 6 and 7 at their current school.

Once an application form (below) has been completed, candidates will be invited to an on-site assessment day in January to take part in interviews and group activities, as well as an online assessment in English, Mathematics, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, Puzzles and Comprehension. The English and Mathematics tests will be broadly in line with the National Curriculum. Early notification is requested if any individual is unable to attend on the specified test date or if the candidate requires special access arrangements.

In addition to the assessment day, a report will be requested from the candidate’s current school. Offers are made in early February.

Quest

The entrance examination is an online assessment delivered by Quest. Children are not expected to prepare for the assessment, though we recommend reviewing the familiarisation exercise here. Additional guidance for parents can be found here.

The assessment takes a total of 105 minutes and covers the subjects below.

No further assessment will be required, unless you wish to apply for a Scholarship.

 

Deadline

The application deadline to be considered for a place joining in September 2028 or September is 2029 is Friday 6 November 2026.

Testing will take place at The Leys in early January 2027.

 

Application Form

Before completing our application form, should you wish to read our School Policies please click here. In particular, you might like to view our Admissions Policy and the Parent and Pupil Data Protection Privacy Notices. In addition, we would also like to draw your attention to the following points before proceeding with your application:

  • The application form should take 10-15 minutes to complete
  • The application form should be completed in one sitting as it cannot be saved for you to return to
  • We recommend that the application form is completed using a laptop or PC
  • Please have a payment card ready to pay the £200 application fee
  • When applicable, details for both parents should be included in the application form
  • Parents must upload a copy of their child’s birth certificate and a recent school report, and have the option to share other documents such as a passport and medical/learning support paperwork, so please have these to hand before starting the application form
  • If you are a member of teaching staff at The Leys or St Faith’s please contact us as before completing an application form
