Legacy Giving

Your Legacy. Their Future.

A gift in your Will can help shape the future of The Leys and the lives of generations of Leysians to come.

From making a Leys education accessible to the brightest pupils regardless of their financial circumstances, to enhancing our beautiful buildings or enriching our wider curriculum, your support helps make life at The Leys so special.

Those who choose to leave a gift in their will are warmly welcomed into our 1875 Society, with access to exclusive events and other benefits.

Ways to Leave a Gift

You can choose the option that best reflects your wishes:

A Percentage of Your Estate

A percentage share of your estate can be as small or as large as you choose.

This type of gift is particularly valuable because it is inflation-proof, helping to preserve its value over time.

A Lump Sum

A fixed sum, which can be index-linked to retain its value over time.

A Deed of Variation

If you are a beneficiary of a will, you may choose to pass on part of your inheritance – potentially benefiting from tax advantages while seeing the impact of your gift in your lifetime.

The impact of Legacy Giving

Legacy gifts have a profound impact at The Leys, helping to transform pupils' lives.

How to Leave a Gift in Your Will

A legacy gift can be included when you first make your will, or added later using a simple codicil. We recommend seeking professional legal advice.

Suggested wording your solicitor might find helpful:

“I give to the Leys School (Registered Charity Number 1144035), [the residue of my estate], [x% of the residue of my estate] or [the sum of £x] free of tax for the general purposes of the School. I declare that the receipt of the Bursar for the time being of the School shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors.”

Legal Support & Advice

For those yet to make a will, local solicitors Hewitsons will donate part of the cost of making a will to the Bursaries Fund.

Recognising your support

Whatever your reason for choosing to leave a legacy to The Leys, we are delighted to recognise your commitment through membership of the 1875 Society. Reserved exclusively for those who have pledged a legacy gift, the Society offers an annual invitation from the Head to visit the School, along with access to a programme of exclusive events to stay connected with The Leys community.

I have always been grateful for the breadth of education The Leys gave me. A legacy gift does not affect your lifestyle and can make a lasting difference. That is why I have included the School in my will - to benefit future generations of Leysians."
John Long, School, 1938–42, who passed away in 2020 and whose gift helped to change the lives of bursary pupils at The Leys
