The Leys is the only co-educational boarding and day school in Cambridge. Our main entry points are Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+) and Lower Sixth (16+). Entry into Year 11 and Year 13 is not possible.
Entry to the school
Entry at 11+ and 13+ is by means of our own entrance tests; we do not use Common Entrance. Tests take place in the January of the year of entry and there are papers in Maths, English and Reasoning (verbal, non-verbal and spatial).
For entry to the Sixth Form, candidates must have achieved at least an average of 5.5 at GCSE and at least a grade 4 in Maths and English. A grade 6 pass at GCSE is almost invariably the minimum requirement for starting an A level subject and a grade 7 is preferred.
Categories of place
The Leys is a school of 560 pupils, offering three kinds of place:
- BOARDING - 50% of pupils are full Boarders.
- HOME BOARDING (only available from Year 9) - 20% of pupils are Home Boarders.
- DAY - 30% of pupils are Day pupils.
Upon joining the school, each child becomes a member of one of eleven houses. There are three Day houses (mixed), three girls' boarding houses (including one for Sixth Form only), four boys' boarding houses (including one for Sixth Form only) and one house for Years 7 and 8 (mixed). Boarders and Home Boarders share the same houses. By the Upper Sixth each pupil will have a single room. The ratio of boys to girls is 60:40.
Please order a prospectus pack for up-to-date information about the school and a registration form (please note that the registration form is not available online).
