Performing ‘The Madness of King George III’
This week, Year 10 pupils have performed Alan Bennett’s 1991 play, The Madness of George III in Great Hall.
The play is a fictionalised biography of the latter half of the reign of George III, his battle with mental illness, and the inability of his court to handle his condition. The Year 10 performers coped admirably with the mature script, combined with simple black and white staging and elaborate period costumes.
Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions and unforeseen circumstances throughout the rehearsal process, the pupils were unable to perform in front of a full audience. However, the experience on putting a play on stage was still valuable for the performers and crew, under the direction of English teacher Mr Hancock and the Great Hall theatre staff.
