Celebrating Organ Scholarship at The Leys

The Leys is delighted to introduce this year’s talented cohort of organists. Jacob L-A, Jasper C, Wesley W and Curtis M will play an important role in the musical life of the School, contributing to Chapel services, concerts and recitals while developing their skills as performers and musicians.

This year also marks the introduction of the Harter Organ Scholarship, established through the generosity of Dr Harter and Ms Bacon. Speaking at the launch of the scholarship, they commented: “Music adds enormously to life for a Leysian. It is our great pleasure to endow organ scholarships that seek to nurture the next generation.”

For Jacob L-A, becoming the inaugural Harter Organ Scholar is a proud moment: “It was an absolute honour and privilege hearing that I had been awarded the scholarship. I was excited to further develop my skills as a musician and I have felt honoured to be the first ever recipient. I have always been fascinated by the instrument, particularly after joining the School choir and hearing it played. I look forward to accompanying hymns and choral pieces, but what I find particularly rewarding is the instrument’s ability to create so many different soundscapes.

“I am particularly looking forward to performing during Chapel services and developing my skills throughout the year, and one of the most exciting opportunities offered is the chance to shadow in the organ loft at Trinity College. I am extremely grateful for these opportunities in the future and now look forward to honing my skills and knowledge of the instrument.”

The School is also pleased to welcome Mr Alex Trigg as its new Organ Teacher. Through specialist tuition and mentorship, he will support pupils in developing their technical skills, musical understanding and confidence as performers. Alongside regular opportunities to perform in Chapel services, concerts and recitals, the Organ Scholars will benefit from a programme designed to deepen their understanding of the instrument and nurture their development as musicians.

Through initiatives such as the Harter Organ Scholarship, specialist teaching and a rich programme of performance opportunities, The Leys continues to invest in young musicians, nurturing talent, confidence and creativity while supporting the next generation of organists and performers.
