Celebrating Bach’s Well-tempered Clavier

In 1722 Johann Sebastian Bach completed, compiled and presented his first volume of 24 preludes and fugues for keyboard in all major and minor keys. The Well-tempered Clavier was born. To celebrate the 300th anniversary of this masterpiece, Director of Music Max Kenworthy will record and release each prelude and fugue from Book I during 2022.

Each pair of preludes and figures will be recorded by Max on the Bechstein grand piano in Great Hall. They will then be released on each degree of the scale every month, so look and listen out for them throughout the year. The first two preludes and fugues can be found here:
