Lou Cenac
People are often surprised when I tell them I went to a boarding school. The first thing they usually say is, “Oh my goodness, how did you find it?” and my response is always the same: “Amazing”.
Being given the opportunity to attend The Leys on a bursary was truly a privilege. In the seven years I spent there I had an incredible education and made the most beautiful friendships, many of which have been maintained up until today. Being a boarder and living away from home gave me the chance to grow in independence and develop an understanding of what it means to be responsible. Attending a boarding school is an experience which not many people have, and those of us who have the chance to do so know it is very special.
I will always be grateful to the donors who made the bursary scheme possible. They gave me an opportunity all those years ago, an opportunity that has completely shaped my life and made me proud to be an Old Leysian. The Gift of Education programme is a brilliant initiative and I very much look forward to being part of its evolution. I invite other Old Leysians to join me in supporting it and giving opportunities to a younger generation.
