A Gift in Your Will

Legacy gifts have helped make The Leys the wonderful school it is today, supporting bursaries, beautiful buildings, and Wider Curriculum activities. We know that family and close friends will come first when you make your Will. When they have been provided for, we ask you to remember The Leys, providing opportunities for a younger generation of Leysians.

At the heart of the School lie values of decency, fairness and service. We also wish to help pupils who reach the high academic standards of entry fulfil their academic potential regardless of their social background or financial circumstances. To preserve and grow this proud and meaningful tradition, The Leys needs to provide means-tested bursary places. This is the essence of The Leys, and a bequest to the School will ensure this continues for generations to come.

If you do include the School in your Will, please let us know. This will allow us to thank you for your support. Any information you give us will be treated in strict confidence and does not represent a binding commitment. We will recognise your generosity by inviting you to membership of the 1875 Society.

What type of gift can I leave?

A cash sum – which may be index-linked to preserve its value over time.

A percentage – by leaving 10% of your estate to the School, 90% will remain for your loved ones.

A share of the residue – once you have provided for loved ones, you can leave a share of the residue (or a share in the residue along with other named charities) to The Leys.

Deed of variation – if you are a beneficiary under a will, you may consider passing a portion of your inheritance to The Leys. There may be tax advantages for you to do so, and you will be able to see the impact of your gift during your lifetime.

If you wish to discuss how your legacy can have the impact you hope at The Leys, please contact the Development Office [email protected]. We will be happy to make sure your wishes are fulfilled.

How to leave a gift in your will

A legacy gift may be included when you first make your Will, or can be subsequently included by adding a simple codicil. We recommend taking professional legal advice.

Donors who make a gift in their will are recognised through the 1875 Society. As a member, you will receive an 1875 pin, an invitation to an annual special event, be thanked in the List of Donors every year (unless you wish to remain anonymous) and receive personal reports.
