Understanding Food and Climate Change

A group of Leys students attended Professor Sarah Bridle’s talk on ‘Food and Climate Change’ as part of this year’s Darwin College Lecture Series. In her lecture, Professor Bridle delved into the many complexities of the world’s agricultural systems and their very different environmental impacts. Charlotte B commented that “the lecture was a very enjoyable experience and I have a newfound interest in how food affects climate change.”

Pupils in the Lower Sixth Global Goals Climate Action Team worked with Mr Harmsworth, Professor Bridle and her team to design a Schools Climate Summit based around the topic of Food, culminating in 2021 with a number of schools across the country participating online and in person, learning more about the issues and – importantly – taking action. The Climate Action Team are now working with Leys Catering to look at providing clear food labelling in the dining hall so that high, medium and low impact choices are clearly identifiable.
