Eastside Young Leaders visit The Leys
20 young people from Eastside Young Leaders Academy in London visited The Leys last week to have a first look at boarding school life.
The pupils visited to learn more about life as a boarder, from living in dorms with friends to supervised prep and the fun of weekend activities. Aged from 10 (Year 6) to 15 (Year 11), the visitors had tours from members of the Upper Sixth, and Mr Barton, Housemaster of North A, explained how a boarding house works. Leysian pupils who are part of the Gift of Education programme, one of whom had taken part in the Eastside Young Leaders Academy scheme, talked about the application process, and how to make the most of the support available, whether as a prospective or current boarding school pupil.
Helen Hynd, Director of Pastoral Care at The Leys, commented that “it was an absolute pleasure to host this visit from EYLA. It is always a pleasure to spend time with bright and enthusiastic young people and particularly at this point, when some are just at the start of their journey. For our Gift of Education pupil to be able to host her mentors here was an absolute delight as they could see how she is flourishing with us!”
