My time at The Leys has shaped my life ever since. The education I received (although in those days results were not as starry as today!) set me up for an enjoyable career. Perhaps more meaningfully, climbing, walking and running, which I first discovered at School, have been life-long passions of mine, and every year (Covid-permitting!) I still travel up to Assynt in Scotland. I am also still in touch with friends that I made in Cambridge all those years ago.
The strength of The Leys goes beyond a good education – you develop the skills, character and personality which will see you through life. To have the opportunity to attend the school like this is a gift, which is why I believe it is so important that young people who would not usually be able to come to The Leys should have the chance to do so. Now more than ever, the Leysian tradition of educational support should be maintained and expanded by those of us with the means to help.
Your generosity could help a young person to fulfil their potential. It is not often that we have the chance to make such a tangible impact in the world, and it is in this light, in partnership with an organisation that is personally important to us, that I encourage my fellow Old Leysians to join me in supporting the Gift of Education.
