Fees and Bursaries

School Fees

Application Fees and Deposits

The current application fee of £180 (which is inclusive of VAT) is payable on applying for a place at the School and is non-refundable even if we are not able to offer your child a place or an offer is made which parents do not accept.

On signing to accept an offer of a place, families will be required to pay an additional £600 Entry Deposit (formerly known as an ‘Entry Fee’).

Families who permanently reside outside of the UK will also be required to pay an Overseas Deposit (a full Term’s School Fees, less the amount of the Entry Deposit).

The Entry Deposit, and the Overseas Deposit (where this is payable) will be credited, without interest, to the final balance due to the School on your child’s leaving (unless otherwise stated in the School’s Terms and Conditions).

School Fees

School fees are payable for the provision of classes and lessons to your child (Education Services) and Board and Lodging (as applicable) and any meals served as part of the relevant provision (lunch for day pupils; lunch and an evening meal for Home Boarders; and breakfast, lunch and evening meals for Boarders).

The School Fees are subject to VAT and the prices below are inclusive of VAT.

YEAR 9 TO SIXTH FORM
International Boarders £17,745 per term
Boarders £17,064 per term
Home Boarders £12,670 per term
Day Pupils £11,267 per term

YEAR 7 AND 8
International Boarders £12,944 per term
Boarders £12,449 per term
Day Pupils £8,136 per term

Specified Charges

Additional charges (Specified Charges) are payable for all services excluding Education Services, Board and Lodging.

This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Public examinations (including GCSE and A Level)
  • School trips
  • School shop purchases, including uniform
  • Optional music and/or speech and drama lessons which are delivered by self-employed visiting teachers, who charge parents directly.

This is not an exhaustive list and other Specified Charges will arise, and be notified to parents, from time to time.

Specified Charges may be subject to VAT from January 2025. Where VAT is not charged, the School reserves the right to charge VAT where it later assesses VAT to be chargeable on any of the Specified Charges.

Caution Money

Parents whose permanent residence is outside the UK will be required to deposit a full term’s fee less the Entry Fee in addition to the fees for the first term, unless they have paid fees in advance. This payment, which is held against the pupil’s final account, is a precaution against international exchange difficulties and is a requirement of most independent schools.

Bursaries

The Leys is committed to broadening access to the School by offering means-tested financial support to help parents with the payment of School fees. Such support is known as a Bursary and is awarded in the form of a discount on the fees. The value of the Bursary is dependent on financial, compassionate and other pertinent circumstances.

Assistance is offered to new applicants to the school and also to existing families where there is a change in financial circumstances. The School has a limited amount of funds available for Bursaries and seeks to allocate the funds to assist as many families as possible.

Please note that parents of new pupils who wish to apply for a Bursary must do so before their son or daughter is assessed for entry to the school.

For further information about the process, please contact the Finance Bursar, Mrs Mary Cooksey on +44 (0)1223 508909 or [email protected]

In addition, though our Gift of Education programme, we able to offer funded bursary places allowing disadvantaged or vulnerable pupils to access the opportunities provided by a Leysian education. For further information about Gift of Education bursaries, including how to apply, families should contact The Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation in the first instance.
