FROM THE PRESIDENT
Richard Cadman (S 70-75) replaced David Unwin (F 68-72) as President of the Old Leysian Society for 2010. We are very grateful to David for everything he has done for the school over the past year and are delighted to welcome Richard to his new role. Richard wrote about the coming year for the OLS in the Spring edition of the OL Newsletter....
In my opening remarks at the Cambridge dinner at Corpus Christi College in December, I stated that I was suffering from equal amounts of trepidation and anticipation upon being elected President of the Old Leysian Society for the coming year.
Looking at the list of past presidents which reads as a Who's Who of Leysians is quite daunting for a humble chap from Yorkshire and I hope that I can maintain the high standards set before me. I feel greatly honoured and delighted to have been asked to succeed David Unwin, who has been a superb President and has left me a particularly hard act to follow.
The events arranged for 2010 are eagerly awaited. This year I will attend the Manchester and Yorkshire Dinners, the West of England and London Drinks Receptions, the Halford Hewitt golf and the annual Cambridge Dinner. Once again, we will be using a magnificent dining hall, this time at Jesus College.
Without wishing to devalue any of the events previously mentioned, I am paricularly looking forward to the Reunion being held on 15th May for year groups 1968 to 1974. I hope that many of my contemporaries will find the time and make the effort to revisit past haunts and gather for what will be a weekend full of nostalgia and fun.
In October I have been invited to join the "boys" who were evacuated during the 1939-1945 war to the Atholl Palace Hotel for the Pitlochry Reunion, a special event celebrating 65 years on.
The first get together of the Old Leysian Rambling Society took place on 24th January and details of more forthcoming events will follow in the OL Newsletter and here on the website, so do check in from time to time. I look forward to meeting as many Old Leysians as possible over the coming months, to renewing old friendships and encouraging others to follow suit.
With Best wishes,
Richard Cadman

The Archives
Since the opening of the Clapham Building, which is home to the Classics, Divinity, History and Geography Departments, the School has a dedicated Archives Room, housed next to the History Department. Old Leysians are welcome to consult the Archives. However they would be well advised to contact John Harding in advance (jch@theleys.net). He is happy to receive donations for the Archives at any time. (It is surprising the gaps that exist so please don't assume that the School already possesses copies of anything you are thinking of disposing of.) In addition he is delighted to follow up enquiries from any O.L. researching their family history or simply curious about the past activities of members of their family. From time to time John Harding writes articles for the Old Leysian Newsletter on archive matters, including his recent article on the war-time exploits of Graham Sell, who is commemorated on the School War Memorial. The editors of the Newsletter particularly welcome articles from Old Leysians containing reminiscences of their schooldays or outlining their own research into the School's history. Please send your contributions to John Harding at jch@theleys.net.
