St George's Day celebrations
St George's Day provided an opportunity for the school's International Society to celebrate the overseas cultural links of England's patron saint.
Patricija Petkeviciute from Lithuania, Olga Tyurina from Russia and Simon Paskova from Bulgaria, all in the Lower Sixth, provided information about the saint's place in their culture and how he is celebrated there. Daniele Lee (L6) also presented information on how Catalonia is linked with St George.
Participants had a chance to sample black bread, which is associated with eastern European countries. But pride of place went to the special cake made in Lithuania and kindly sent from there by Patricija's mother to be enjoyed by the group.
