Professor Morna Hooker, Lady Margaret's Professor Emeritus at the University of Cambridge, came to talk to sixth-form theologians about the role of the Old Testament in the Gospel of St John.
She was introduced by the Rev Charles Fraser as "one of the most distinguished New Testament scholars of her generation, and indeed the last century".
Prf Hooker opened the students' eyes to her topic in a lively style, pointing out that while today we look to Wikipedia for facts, in the 1st Century AD the authoritative source of information about life was the Old Testament. She then explained how the Old Testament shaped the Gospel of St John.
Phillipe Mathieu, Head of Divinity, said: "Her presentation was a model of clarity and completeness as well as a demonstration of how to engage young people with material with which they are not familiar."
