Wi-Fi for Pupils

The Leys has invested in fast wireless networking for its pupils with a system from Aerohive Networks, pioneers in controller-less Wi-Fi and cloud-enabled networking. The new network provides coverage across all the school's houses. It works in tandem with a Network Access Control system, which ensures that all laptops connecting to the network are secure and protected from viruses.  Additionally, all pupils using the wireless network are protected by web filtering, which is used to prevent access to undesirable and dangerous web content.

Pupils can complete assessments online, browse the internet, watch streaming video, play games and communicate with friends and family.  Freed from the need to use cables, our pupils can now also roam within and between houses.  A further benefit of the wireless network is that pupils can now easily connect smart phones, iPads and other mobile devices, which are becoming increasingly popular alternatives to traditional computers.

The plan for wireless coverage at the school extends to providing coverage in teaching areas, to enable the use of mobile devices as teaching and learning aids.
