Lesson by Videoconference Link
Sixth Form students in Biology were today treated to a lesson from Dr Julian Rayner, a leading researcher in anti-malarial biotechnology, from the Sanger Institute. To save on everyone's time, travel costs, and energy use, the lesson was delivered by a videoconference link. The lecture provided a great insight into how genome sequencing is being used to study the development of resistance to anti-malarial drugs, and how scientists today are going about developing immunisation techniques. The video link gave everybody at the school a clear picture, and the effect was very much as though Dr Rayner was present in the room. There was a thought-provoking question and answer session afterwards.
