The Queen lands at The Leys
There was great excitement at The Leys when Her Majesty the Queen arrived by helicopter on the school playing field.
The Queen was met by The Duke of Edinburgh, the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Hugh Duberly CBE, the Headmaster Mark Slater and his wife, Paula. Crowds of pupils turned out to greet the Royal party, who were in the city for one of their final public engagements before the Royal Wedding – the opening of the new Sainsbury plant science laboratory at the Botanic Garden.
The Leys was honoured by a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh when he opened the Clapham Building in April 2003, and the Queen has made several visits to Cambridge in recent years.
