Physics essay wins prize

For the third year running a pupil from The Leys has gained a Highly Commended award in the annual Institute of Physics (IoP) Environmental Essay Competition.

William Parker (Year 10), pictured, will be heading to London for a prize-giving lunch later this month.

William chose as his topic nuclear power, which has been in the headlines since the Japanese tsunami raised new safety questions about nuclear reactors. Along with the other prize winners, he will present a synopsis of his essay. The IoP hopes to republish the essay, which can also be read on the School’s Sustainability web page.

Andrew Harmsworth, Head of Physics, said he was delighted that William’s work had received national recognition.
