Thought Provoking

“Has Science Replaced God?”

That was the proposition debated at the Gifted and Talented Day at The Guildhall, Cambridge, which was attended by a dozen Year 10 pupils from The Leys.

They listened to four stimulating lectures designed to challenge their thinking, then had the chance to contribute to the debate from the floor.

The event, part of a series staged around the country by Richard Huish College in Taunton, was an opportunity to stretch the brightest young minds. The Leys has participated for the last three years, and pupils relish the mental exercise.

Dr Rowland Adamson, who runs the Academic Enrichment programme at The Leys, said: “They come back buzzing, excited and asking to do more. Nothing there is related to curriculum subjects, it’s purely to challenge them into original thinking.”
