Versatile swimmer strikes gold
Versatile and talented swimmer Richard Jefferies (Year 11) bagged six gold medals at the City of Cambridge Level 2 Gala.
He took the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, the 100 butterfly and the 100m individual medley.
Richard, pictured with just some of the medals he has won recently, swims with the City of Cambridge Swimming Club but still does regular gym training with David Silk, Head of Swimming at The Leys. His dedication is impressive, as he has to fit in his swimming training with the demands of schoolwork.
“He is a very, very talented swimmer. He has to be incredibly focused and has to constantly juggle his training with his study for his GCSEs. I am very impressed with him, he’s a great ambassador and a real credit to the school,” said Mr Silk.
Richard helps younger swimmers at The Leys, and his younger sister, Nicola, is already the fastest female swimmer in the school.
He aims to pursue his swimming and his academic studies.
“My target is next year’s British Championship, the biggest meet for non-internationals. I can qualify any time after August,” he said.
