Saatchi Gallery shows portrait

Old Leysian Celia Knight, currently studying history of art at Edinburgh University, has had one of her paintings displayed at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Her work, “A Portrait of Ken”, was entered for The Leys in the annual Saatchi Gallery/Sunday Telegraph Schools Art Prize. She painted it while in the 6th form at The Leys and it was selected by The Sunday Telegraph to promote the competition. Celia’s piece was one of the 20 shortlisted in the competition which received over 18,000 entries from as far afield as Hungary,Kenya and the US. Since then, it has been chosen for display in the main galleries of the Saatchi Gallery for two weeks (January 12-21).

Celia and her parents joined Julie Stobbart, head of art at The Leys, for the private view at the gallery at which the overall winner of the prize was named. It was not to be Celia’s day, but she did enjoy the rare honour of having her work hung in a top fine art gallery.
