Seafront victory

Strong winds and tough opposition failed to keep The Leys girls’ team from clinching victory in the Independent Schools Beach Volleyball Championships 2011.

Sarah Angelini, Chi Iao Vong, Cherie Tam and Georgia Adamson adapted their playing style to conditions on the sand courts at Yellowave on the Brighton Seafront and lost just one match – to Lancing B. They beat Sevenoaks, Farnborough, St Bede’s and St Paul’s then beat Lancing A by one point in the semi-final.

This set up a very close final against Epsom College, in which The Leys girls were handed victory by a service error from their opponents. This gave them the crucial winning point.

Team coach Richard Hill said: “The girls all played with great determination throughout the day and, having been dedicated to training all year, thoroughly deserved to win the championships.”
