Musical feast
Leysians were treated to two top-flight concerts in two days, both staged in the School's Recital Hall.
The acclaimed 10-piece brass ensemble Prime Brass demonstrated its virtuosity in a varied programme ranging from Rimsky-Korsakov's late-Romantic works to Chick Corea's study in syncopation, Spain. Julian Jarvis, bass trombonist and peripatetic teacher for The Leys, gave an informative commentary.
The following day, the Lunchtime Live concert was given by Lucy Landymore, winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year percussion catagory in 2010. Lucy, currently a student at the Royal School of Music, played instruments such as the marimba and side drum which are rarely seen in solo performances. Her father, Julian Landymore, who teaches saxaphone at The Leys, joined Lucy in a rendition of Eric Sammut's Libertango.
Rob Hall, Director of The Leys, said: "To have two such prestigious concerts in the sapce of about 18 hours is pretty incredible, even by our standards!"
