Beacons challenge

Year 8 pupils combined Geography field studies with outdoor physical challenges on a residential trip to the Brecon Beacons.

The four-day trip included caving, gorge-walkng and climbing and a guided tour of The Big Pit, an abandoned coal mine.

Cameron Lewis, one of the pupils who took part, said: "It was fascinating, with all the equipment and machinery, the electrical communications wires and even the stables where the horses were kept. We made our way to the Mining Experience, which was a reconstruction of how miners lived down in dark, dank tunnels with special effects and light shows. This has been the best residentialtrip ever!"
