Artistic Success

Four canvases by Leys A level art student Mu-Chun Chiang, 17, have gone on show at the Medical Research Council’s neuroscience department in Cambridge.

Mu-Chun submitted the arcrylic paintings, for which English teacher Andrew Batterham was the model, to the MRC’s schools’ competition, Imagining the Brain. The judges were so impressed that they have taken the works on long-term loan. They have also offered Mu-Chun a month’s residency at the MRC, so she can talk to neurobiologists about their work and gain inspiration for further artwork.

Mu-Chun said: “I think it will be interesting, and I’m quite excited about it.”

Yvonne Vallis, co-ordinator for Imagining the Brain, said: “We are delighted that Mu-Chun will be coming to the lab this summer as an artist in residence and we are looking forward to working with such a creative and talented person.”
