Smaller Projects
Cricket Nets (£36,000)
The school's existing outdoor cricket nets (on the main school field adjacent to Trumpington Road) are past their best and do not allow the first class coaching that The Leys would like to offer given the talent and ability of our young cricketers.
Ideally, we would like to replace the current nets with a 5-bay cricket net on the main school field and a 2-bay net on the Latham Road field, to add to the excellent indoor nets in our Sports Hall. The replacement nets would have dynamic bases and full roof netting, making them fully compatible with current ECB guidelines and usable by cricketers of the professional standard to which our young players aspire.
The Leys has 80-90 young sailors who take part in sailing in the summer and autumn terms, with a number of pupils who sail competitively. The school's small fleet of sailing boats (1 Kestrel, 2 Bosuns, 2 Laser Picos, and 6 420s) are all well used. The purchase of a good instructional sailing dinghy would transform the quality of our sailing instruction and boating stock. The dinghy would be kept at our regular sailing venue, The Huntingdon Sailing Club in St Ives.
Canoe Trailer (£4,000)
A new canoe trailer would allow The Leys Canoe Club and the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) to go on river trips locally and nationally throughout the year. This would enable our young kayakers and canoeists to experience different water conditions and advance their skills. Around 60-70 young Leysians take part in kayaking and canoeing within the school.
