Performing Arts Centre

As well as three new science classrooms the building will comprise:

A 320 seat Theatre for drama performances, lectures, presentations and large musical concerts which cannot be accommodated in the Music School Recital Hall. The theatre will incorporate state-of-the-art backstage facilities, technical infrastructure including lighting and sound equipment, a control room and workshop, storage areas and a green room. These will allow the Leys Drama Department and technical staff to operate a fully functional “teaching theatre”, with pupils involved in every aspect of productions.

The lower tier of the theatre will be retractable, creating a School Hall which can comfortably seat 600 for a full school assembly. This venue will bring together the whole school community and will be used for open mornings, parents’ receptions, careers fairs, exhibitions and exams.

A first floor Drama Studio, providing flexible rehearsal space and an intimate theatre which can be used for small productions and group work.

A Drama Department providing three spacious classrooms and office space.

A Dance Studio.

A spacious Foyer on the ground floor with a cafe and terrace leading out to a redesigned Dale Court.

A first floor Gallery which will allow the staging of exhibitions and other displays of work.
