Mathematics
The principal aims of the mathematics department are for each pupil to achieve their highest potential through excellent teaching, a communication of the joy and challenge of mathematical problem solving and a feeling of satisfaction and acknowledgement of their progress. All pupils in years 7 to 11 study mathematics for GCSE and for those who are mathematically talented we provide an additional mathematics qualification in year 11. We also provide support for those who find the subject challenging, either in small groups or at one of the mathematics clinics offered each week. About half of the sixth form study A-level Mathematics, producing excellent results. For those who are particularly able we offer an A-Level in Further Mathematics. We also enter many students for National Competitions such as the Senior Mathematical Challenge.
GCSE
At GCSE students are set by ability and follow the Higher OCR Mathematics Syllabus. Our aim is for students to enjoy mathematics through challenging work in Number, Algebra, Shape and Space, Measure and Handling Data.
Sixth Form
At Advanced Level students follow the OCR syllabus which has both pure and applied components in the course. For the most able we offer Further Mathematics which extends mathematical skills in pure maths, statistics, mechanics and decision maths.
