Library

The library comprises two rooms on the top floor of the King's Building; these are the original School Library and the Kent Room.

The Library contains a large collection of non-fiction books arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. The majority of books are available for loan to pupils and staff but some are for reference only, including those in the 'Quick Reference' section. Several daily newspapers are taken and there is a small collection of periodicals and DVDs. The Library has a wireless network and a number of laptop computers available for pupils to borrow for use in the Library. There are also three computers with headphones for audio-visual use, and printer facilities which include an A3 printer/scanner.

The Kent Room houses the fiction collection arranged in A-Z order by author surname, as well as a small general reference section. In addition there is a suite of networked computers offering access to information on the school's Intranet and via the Internet. Wireless access is available for pupils with their own laptops.

The library catalogue is accessible throughout school via the Intranet. Items currently on loan to other borrowers may be reserved by pupils and staff.

Opening Hours

The library is open between 8.30am-9pm Monday-Friday and 8.30am-12.40pm Saturday with some closed periods. It is open at break time Monday to Saturday and at lunch time three days a week. Full details of open hours are displayed on House notice boards, outside the library and on the Intranet. Returned items can be posted in a returns box when the library is closed.

The Library is reserved for quiet study between 6.45-9.00pm.

Pupils in Years 7-10 may borrow six items and in Year 11 ten items and renew them twice. Sixth Form pupils may borrow twelve items and renew them three times.
