Information Technology (ICT)

ICT is taught in purpose-built rooms containing high specification machines running the very latest software. All rooms have projectors and interactive whiteboards used both by staff and pupils.

A practical approach is used to teach ICT through a variety of creative applications. Pupils are taught the importance of adopting a professional style when presenting documents. The majority of ICT projects have cross curricular themes.

Major topics

Year 7: word processing, desk top publishing, spreadsheets, databases, image/video editing, interactive quizzes;
Year 8: presentation, website design, ICT and society, desk top publishing, animation, video manipulation;
Year 9: word processing, desk top publishing, databases, computer aided design (CAD).

GCSE and AS are taught through an Applied ICT format. Students look at how ICT is used and its effect on society, in particular business.

Edexcel - GCSE in applied information & communication technology (Double Award); unit 1 - ICT tools and applications; unit 2 - ICT systems and organisations; unit 3 - ICT and society
*From September 2006 we will be moving to the OCR GCSE ICT A single award syllabus*

Sixth Form

OCR - AS level GCE in applied information & communication technology; unit 1 - using ICT to communicate; unit 2 - how organisations use ICT; unit 3 - ICT solutions for individuals.
