Oxbridge

SUB MENU

There is no doubt that a place at Oxford or Cambridge is very highly prized. Spending three or four years at one of the top universities offers a unique opportunity to be exposed to some of the finest minds in the world in the most stimulating of environments.

Competition is stiffer than ever now, but a place is certainly within the reach of those who demonstrate intellectual rigour, a capacity for hard work and an ability to think critically and independently.

Those thinking of applying to Oxbridge should have excellent GCSE results (normally 6A*s or more) and AS results (4 A grades) and show the potential to go on to achieve 3 A/A* grades at A2 level. They must be highly motivated and passionate about their subject and be academic leaders.

The Summer Term of the Lower Sixth after AS exams provides the ideal time for candidates to spend time researching appropriate colleges and to start to focus on individual research and reading and to begin the preparation of the personal statement. There are also a number of Open Days at this time which are recommended. Oxbridge Preparation Days are organised during the last three weeks of term when those applying to Oxbridge will meet together as a group to discuss and explore different issues.

Those expressing an interest in applying will be allocated a “mentor” with the relevant department at school who will oversee and supervise the candidate’s application, arrange supervisions and interview practice with academics from outside the school, and will provide guidance and advice throughout the process. College visits and links with current students of the university are arranged and candidates are encouraged to undertake a significant amount of personal research and reading.

Candidates interested in an application to Oxbridge should contact Mr. Crosfield, who runs the Oxbridge programme, for more information and advice.
